Austin Housing Growth Means Career Growth

Austin growth = job opportunities

There is a silver-lining to the explosive growth of our beautiful city - booming apartment development has translated into a high-demand career opportunity for people in our community.

The Goodwill Career & Technical Academy has partnered up with the Austin Apartment Association and the Texas Apartment Association to offer fast-paced training courses that equip our clients with the skills they need to become Apartment Leasing Professionals and Apartment Maintenance Technicians. Entry-level positions start at $10 to $12 per hour with benefits including discounted rent when living on property, and bonuses for Leasing Professionals.

In March, the Austin Apartment Association and Texas Apartment Association Education Foundation each made a generous gift of $1,500 to serve as scholarships for two courses – Apartment Leasing Professional & Apartment Maintenance Technician. On April 13th, fourteen students graduated from the Apartment Leasing program, and three students graduated from the Apartment Maintenance Program.

Immediately after the graduation ceremony, 16 employers from various apartment complexes and staffing agencies were poised to hire the recent grads. The three, newly minted, Apartment Maintenance Technicians received multiple job offers.

This is truly a win-win for both our business partners and program participants seeking a career. “We sponsor occupational training with Goodwill because our donations go directly to creating career pathways for our industry. Goodwill provides customized support and training to bring new talent to our employers. Our partnership makes good business sense and connects our community together,” Taylor Jackson, Director of Business Development & Membership with the Austin Apartment Association.
