Congratulations, Class of 2015!

Excel Graduate

6.30.2015

They did it – and you helped!

We’ve been watching them attend classes at The Goodwill Excel Center for the last five sessions. We’ve watched them study, learn, and become more and more confident as they gained the education they needed. And last Friday, 43 students from the ages of 19 to 48 years old walked the stage at Blanton Museum of Art and received their high school diplomas!

“[The Goodwill] Excel Center is powerful – it turns what we once only dreamed about into a reality,” said Keisha, who gave the Graduate Address.

The Goodwill Excel Center opened its doors to individuals age 19-50 last August and celebrated its first graduation on June 26th.

2015 Graduating Class

The inaugural graduating class walked the stage of a packed auditorium at the Blanton Museum of Art; forty-three students received their high school diploma in the company of hundreds of joy-filled, enthusiastic supporters. Commissioner of Education, Michael Williams, was the Keynote Speaker for the ceremony. “You are courageous. You’ve expressed it and demonstrated it by being here today,” Commissioner Williams said to the students. “Take that courage to go even further.”

In addition to their high school diplomas, many students also received their Certifications in accounting/bookkeeping, nursing, and technical areas.

The event was well-attended by family, friends, legislators, and members of the press. Here are just a few highlights from various news outlets in Central Texas:

Traci Berry, Senior Vice President of Community Engagement and Education, said, “Most of our students came focused on earning their diploma, but they are leaving with plans for continued education, technical certifications, and career goals, which will impact generational change while enhancing the Central Texas workforce.”

“A lot of us are older, now we don’t have to settle. We can move forward and achieve our life’s goals!” added Geneva, Student & Graduate Welcome Speaker.

Congratulations to the entire Class of 2015, and our heartfelt thanks to Central Texans who have supported our mission and vision to make The Goodwill Excel Center a reality!
