Goodwill Central Texas Receives $15,000 Grant from Austin Community Foundation

AUSTIN, TX — January 30, 2018 — Goodwill Central Texas announced today that it received grant of $15,000 from  Austin Community Foundation in support of providing mental health counseling services for adult students of The Goodwill Excel Center.

The Goodwill Excel Center opened its doors in 2014 as the first and still only public charter high school for adults over 26 in the state of Texas. Since then it has expanded the population served to 17-50 and currently educates 500 students annually. Over 95% of students are at the poverty level or below. The school offers a full spectrum of support services including early childhood education, life coaches, bus passes, mental health counseling, food assistance, referrals and more.

Approximately 331 Central Texans have graduated from The Goodwill Excel Center since it opened three years ago.

“This grant from Austin Community Foundation will help us ensure the holistic well-being of our students so they have the tools and skills needed to focus on their academic work and achieve their high school diploma,” Matt Williams, Vice President Education, Goodwill Central Texas, said. “With this support, we will continue to empower Central Texans to succeed and create meaningful change in Austin and Central Texas.”
