Meet Lynn Johnson

When Lynn came to Goodwill, he was at a crossroads, contemplating his next step. The Army always had a clear path laid out for him, and his current situation was a stark contrast. Lynn needed direction.

The first thing he did was take a weeklong Job Readiness Boot Camp. With his military background, that was very appealing to him. He nailed it. He was then assigned to Jenna, his case manager, who helped Lynn navigate his career and education options. Jenna immediately realized how intelligent, determined, and motivated Lynn really was.

His dream job was to be an over-the-road truck driver, so Jenna enrolled him into a truck driving school, and Goodwill underwrote his Class A Certified Driver’s License. After completing his training, Lynn job-searched and networked, and was hired one week after getting his license. A month later, he was offered an even better-paying job.

Lynn was soon able to purchase his own truck and become an independent driver – his dream job! He began working with eight other independent truckers, and is seen as a leader and a mentor.

Lynn now drives the 48 contiguous states, delivering goods to grateful vendors. “Goodwill got me the resources and training I needed to get a great job. That job enabled me to accomplish my long range goal of owning my own business, in a short period of time.”
