As a member of the deaf community, Daniel faced a significant language barrier and struggled with navigating the job market. Not only was he trying to earn stable income for himself and his small family, he hoped to provide assistance to family in Mexico. Frustrated with his job search, Daniel came to Goodwill. He and his Placement Specialist, Gabby Deville, worked tirelessly to find a job that provided him with a living wage and a feeling of fulfillment. “I liked the fact that Goodwill wasn’t just looking to get me a job; they were looking out for my future.”

Gabby enrolled Daniel in the HEB Employment Partnership program, and his eagerness to learn was immediately noticed by both Goodwill and HEB staff. As a result of his training and hard work, he was hired at Randall’s as an Overnight Stocker. Daniel’s winning personality and superb customer service was not lost on Randall’s leadership. Despite his disability, he quickly rose up in the ranks, and after seven months of employment, he was promoted to Dairy Manager. In April 2014, he celebrated his one-year anniversary with the company!

Daniel takes great pride in supporting his wife and children, and he is happy that they can now dream for a better future. Through Daniel’s employment, they have worked toward saving a nest egg and look forward to buying their first home.

“I am inspired by my experiences through work.”
